Many people when their dog has cataracts are wondering, what disease does my dog actual have and what does this cataracts mean? While the word cataract means inside of the dictionary “To Break Down”. Now what this actually refers to is the breakdown causing a major disruption of all of the normal arrangement of your optical lends, or possibly your optical capsule. When this form of disruption happens, this often results in a strong loss of visual for the people who are having this happen inside of their own eye. Often you can tell if your dog has cataracts due to the way there eye looks, if their eye appears white and ice colored then you can be sure your dog is suffering from cataracts and the only way to make this disease go away is to have a surgery. This is your only option for a dog as they cannot wear contact lenses, or glasses to help them be able to see longer.
Many people who come in and complain about cataract symptoms inside their dog’s eyes, they are generally old dogs. A good amount of the time, the dog could not even be being affect by this type of disease but it is another common disease that a dog can get which is called Nuclear Sclerosis, which is normal to happen in a variety of dogs that are no longer young. What Nuclear Sclerosis is normal graying of the dog’s optical lenses as it does get to be an older dog. This is nothing to worry about, but it is always a safe bet to go to your local veterinarian if you think that your dog is actually suffering from cataracts.
