Dog Cataract

Many people who have a dog that has Cataract are wondering how their dog will be able to see after, they have the cataract surgery done and if it will actually work, and if it does work how will they even know if it worked. The good news is that after a successful cataract surgery for your dog your dog will be able to see close to how it was able to see, before it developed cataract in the first place. But what is good to know that even with this surgery being completed on your dog that usually it is not able to give the dog their original vision. The reason that this is normally the cause is because there are dozens of things that are around for dogs, and this is partially the reason that a perfect replacement of your dog’s original lens is not really possible. Also many dogs, have a large amount of inflammation inside of their eyes, after they have had their initial surgery and due to this the dog’s tend to have more scarring on the inside of their lens then humans. As this scarring is more then normal humans, this kind of scarring usually hurts the eye vision slightly and leads to decreased vision even after the cataract surgery is performed. On the bright side there are many owners who have had this done for their pet and been very happy with the results that they have gotten because of this.                                            Dog Cataract A wonderful thing to point out, is that after a dog has cataract surgery the cataract cannot even recur, which means you will not have to worry about this disease coming back to bite your dog. But it is known that many dogs do get decreased vision often the years, after the cataract surgery due to the fact there is normally a lot of heavy scarring. One thing to focus on is that when your dog does go through the cataract surgery that they will end up seeing better, and will be able to focus on objects better. The cornea which is what the main part of the cataract surgery is done is two thirds of your dog’s eye, so doing surgery may remove the cataract but it still does not let the lens be completely replaced. Due to this fact your dog will never have its old perfect vision again. But it will be able to see better and that is what having this surgery done is all about, helping you get  your dog to be able to have some vision again. Many people wonder, if this surgery is so needed for so many different dogs’s why the surgery can sometimes be very pricy. Well the reason that Cataract surgery is costly at times is due to the fact that it does require specialized training to be performed as well as specialized equipment. The same type of tools that they use to perform a cataract surgery on a dog, are the same kind of tools, that the doctor’s use when doing a cataract surgery on a human being. Most of the expense in this comes from the fact that you are paying a “Board-Certified” animal vet, and the ones that can perform a cataract surgery are often called ophthalmologist.
